24 Hours in Split – What to do?

24 Hours in Split – What to Do?

You have decided to spend only one day in Split and you’re not sure of what to do? One day is surely very short, but there are still many things that you can see and many places that you can visit.

Diocletian’s palace and the Bell tower

When someone says Split, Diocletian’s palace is probably the first thing that pops to everyone’s mind. With its almost 2000 years of historical heritage, it gives you a feeling as though you have stumbled into the past – from Roman times to medieval in just a few steps.

If you’re in Split for only a day, you might want to book one of the walking tours so your experience is complete. In that way, you’ll learn all you need to know about city history and local secrets.

Don’t miss out climbing the bell tower and be amazed by a mesmerising view of red roofs, Marjan hill, the islands and the sea.

Promenade Riva

You’re longing for a true Mediterranean experience? You just want to relax and sip your coffee or a cocktail looking at the sea? Riva is then a perfect place for you. Prices in the cafes and the restaurants there are a bit higher, but it’s worth it, for you’ll really enjoy it. There is always something going on there, from concerts, street performances to sports events.

Even only sitting on a bench, sipping your coffee to go, looking at the ferries coming and leaving, is an experience you won’t forget.

The only thing that might ruin your time a bit is a smell of sulphur, but it’s one of the main reasons Split exists today. Namely, the Emperor Diocletian chose to build his palace here because of it – the sulphur has medicinal properties.

Marjan

Marjan, also called the lungs of Split, is a park forest located in the western part of Split peninsula. It’s one of the biggest symbols of Split, a green sanctuary for locals, just as for the numerous tourists.

The park hides many secrets and offers so many things to do. You can simply lie on of its many beaches like Kaštelet, Kašjuni or Bene, you can climb the top of the hill and enjoy the 360 degrees view or you can simply “get lost” in a beautiful pine forest, that provides a lot of shade on hot summer days. No matter what you choose to do, you will very soon fall in love with Marjan and the peace if offers.

Museums

The city of Split is a true history treasure, so there are many museums that will fill all the knowledge gaps and answer many of your questions. There, you’ll be able to learn about its rich history, local secrets and even see some of the original documents and stone fragments.

Some of the museums most worth seeing are The City Museum, The Archaeological Museum and the Ethnographic Museum.

Beaches

You’re more of a beach person, so you didn’t want to spend more days in a city big as Split? You might have misjudged it. Split has numerous beautiful beaches, from sandy to pebble ones, there are even secret rocky beaches hidden under the pine trees. The crystal-clear water that “washes” the shores of the city will at times give you an impression like you’re on an island.

Some of the most famous beaches in Split are: Bačvice, Kašjuni, Kaštelet, Žnjan and Bene.

One day trips

If you don’t want to spend the whole day in the city, there are also many day trips you can take, some of them are very convenient for those who are leaving soon, such as the half day trips or a panoramic cruise.

The most popular half day trip is the trip to a so-called Blue Lagoon – there you can enjoy some swimming and snorkelling.

It is also possible to visit the National Park of Krka or Plitvice, but it will surely take an entire day and you won’t have any time left to see the city.
